Chocolate Chip Cookies

Thick & Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies
(recipe adapted from Cook's Illustrated American Classics)
This is my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe!

2 1/8 cups all-purpose flour (2 cups plus 2 tablespoons)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
12 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly (1 1/2 sticks)
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg plus one yolk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 to 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

1. Heat oven to 325 degrees.
2. Stir flour, salt and baking soda together in medium bowl; set aside.
3. In large bowl, blend butter and sugars, egg, yolk and vanilla together.
4. Add dry ingredients slowly, until just combined. Stir in chips and nuts. Chill dough.
5. Use about a 1/4 cup of dough for each cookie and place on the cookie sheet.
6. Bake 15 - 18 minutes.

Makes 18 large cookies.
