My First Fall

I need to watch where I'm going! And I need to stick to running on the road and the park path. Today I turned the corner onto my street, looked down at my Garmin to see I'd run 5.99 miles and bam! I tripped on the uneven sidewalk and went skidding across the ground and fell flat out on the sidewalk.

I've run fairly regularly since 2003 and this was my only running fall - so that's good. But my new Garmin is scratched, one glove has a hole in it, my left knee is a little scraped up, has a small bulge/bump on it and it hurts. I'm icing my knee (shiver, shiver!) and I've got it raised up on a chair.

After I fell, I got up, crossed the street and I was home. I poured the pancake batter I made last night into heart-shaped molds to make cinnamon whole wheat pancakes. To make them, I used half whole wheat pastry flour and half white flour with a sprinkling of cinnamon in my usual pancake recipe - easy and so good! I had some yogurt with cranberries on the side - good, too.

Today's workout: I ran to a new hill which is a mile from home. I did about 4 miles of hillwork - running up and down a .15 mile hill 12 times. I did all of the uphills hard and some of the downhills fast, too. I actually liked this hillwork run, until I got to the 5.99 mile point!

Run carefully and have a happy Valentine's Day!

  1. Yikes!!!!! I'm glad you aren't too hurt but be careful with that knee (and uneven sidewalks!).

Your pancakes are just adorable - I think I need to try to be ambitious and make my kiddos some of those fun things tonight. Maybe breakfast for dinner since we always scrounge around for food on Sat. nights. Thanks for the idea and so glad you enjoyed them!

    Happy Valentine's Day weekened!!

  2. Hope your knee will be OK soon.
I had a spill a couple of years ago. Can't even blame it on uneven sidewalk. Till this day when I run where I fell I slow down.
    Happy Valentine's

  5. Sarah, my Garmin isn't as pretty now, but I hope that seeing that scratch on it will remind me to be more careful - a good thing!

  6. Sorry about your fall! I am always worried about slipping, especially with messy sidewalks that we have around here--but count your scratched Garmin as a battle scar ;) Well-earned!

  16. Poor Tina! I do not like falling and I've done it a few times. I seem to trip and then fall on my face. I hope your knee is okay. I can't wait to see what you whip up for tomorrow! Those pancakes are fun.

  17. Happy Valentine's Day Tina. I bet you are a great cook. Wish you were nearby. I could run over to your house and you could feed me each day.

I have taken 2 tumbles. One while running a few years ago and the one in Nov. that may have been the start to my hip issues this winter???
Hope you are ok. Be careful!

  18. Oh no friend! Hope your doing ok! I am always worried about falling! Those pancakes look yummy!

You totally made me laugh about your dentist comment...I totally laughed and can totally relate! Everyone should know when we are training for a marathon...right? Right!

  19. Ouch! I'm glad the knee seems back to normal. I have had a few falls, so many that I taught myself how to fall like I was sliding into first base. This helped to protect my knees but my hip would get a few scrapes. Thankfully that has not happened in a long time. I'm impressed you came home and made heart shape pancakes, what a sweet wife you are! Sounds like you had a solid hill workout!

  21. Yikes, falls are no fun. Now you have it out of your system and won't ever happen again!!! Mmmmm, pancakes- you are such a great "foodie" - I always look forward to seeing what you have cooked up for us for the day! I agree with Ginny - we need to live close to you so you can feed us all! Have a great week!
