13 Mile Run, Short Run & Links

Flower at Memorial Park

Yesterday's 13 miler certainly beat last Tuesday's 12 miler when I fell. Surprisingly, my scraped arm hurts a little when I run and jostle it, but it's not too bad. I ran a 10:01/mile average pace and ate a Gu gel at miles 5 and 9 to keep up my energy. After running ten miles, I went home to get my Weimaraner, Zoe, so she could run, too.

Today I ran an easy 8 miles at a 10:22 pace. I'm eating my post-run whole wheat pancakes now. Yum!

This and That:
Study Shows Eating Beets Improves Running- I'm glad I like beets!
Eat Full-fat Cheese- I usually eat full-fat dairy foods.
Sweat Science: Optimal Carbohydrate Dose for Endurance- Try everything before race day, though!

Thank you for all of the kind comments left on my last post! Happy running!

  1. THanks for the great links, I also adore beets. It is really hard to find full fat yogurt I have discovered. Especially greek yogurt.

    1. I know- low-fat yogurt is popular, but one yogurt that isn't low-fat is Dannon all-natural plain yogurt, which I buy.

  4. You sound to be running well at a good steady pace. Keep it going. I like beetroot too, we had some last night with our roast beef. Not sure it makes me run any faster though!

  5. Oh I love that you run with your dog! I run with my German Shepherd, Shane and I'm starting to train our border collie puppy, Zoey to run with me. She's a wild thing and will take some time but Shane is the best running partner.
Good job on your 13 miler :)

  6. Years ago my dog accidentally tripped me on a run and I went down hard, lots of bruises and cuts. Now, I'm training my puppy to run with me and I get worried the same thing will happen!

Is it weird that I don't know how to eat beets? Cooked, raw? What do you do with them? I'd like to try them out.

    1. I take the easy route with beets! I just open up a can and eat them plain.

Running with dogs does take a little extra care. It's fun, though. I got a second look at the place where I fell - the road being a lot higher than the side of it may actually be why I fell. That, and trying to steer my dog off of the road at the same time.

  9. I like beets too. My mom always forced me to eat that and carrots but now I like both of them.
