This Week's Exercise

2014 Goal: More Biking!

My Goal for January: Ride my bike more - 15 miles a week.
This Week's Status: I rode 15 miles.

It's getting easier to ride more. Three weeks ago, I was riding about 25 minutes at a time, but now I can ride 50 minutes at a time. It's great to see progress! I haven't signed up for a triathlon. I just like to ride! Plus, I think it will help my overall fitness.

I'm taking part in the 12 Months to a Healthier You Challenge. In the challenge, you set a goal for each month in 2014. I think it will be good to focus on a new healthy goal each month.

Monday
Arm Workout (Fit Sugar video), Fitness Magazine Videos: Butterfly CrunchPlankPilates Roll-up,
Ride: 7 miles
Run: 5 miles. Unusually chilly 27 degrees feels like 11! After 2 miles of running, I went home to get my dog who likes to run. My toes felt numb from the cold so I went back inside to warm them up. After that, they felt fine.

Tuesday
Core H Routine (Coach Johnson)
Run: 6 miles

Wednesday
Run: I did a 12 mile run broken up into thirds: started out easy and speeding up a little.

Thursday
Arm Workout (Fit Sugar video)
Ride: 8 miles.

Friday
Run: 5 mile

Saturday
Run: 7 mile. I ran an easy, hard, easy mile until I finished.

Sunday
Rest!

If you set some goals, how are your goals going? I hope all is well, but if not, every day is a new day!

  1. Sounds like a great challenge! This year my goal is all about enjoy the moment! A lot of things will change this year and I try to enjoy every second of it.

    1. Great goal! You're going to have such an exciting year with the birth of your baby!

  2. Great workouts! I wish I could ride my bike more often. I don't have any "safe' roads near my home to ride on so I end up having to drive my bike to a trail and then ride there.

    1. Having to drive is inconvenient! I didn't have a place where I loved to ride until I moved to my new house a year ago. Now I ride at a park beside my house.

  3. Great job meeting your fitness goal for January! That 12 months of fitness sounds like a great challenge! I wish I could run six days a week, like you, but my shins just won't tolerate it. I have to balance it out with cross training.

    1. That's one reason that I originally started riding more. I was getting back from a running injury, but I wanted to keep my fitness up.

  4. Monthly goals are a great idea! A goal for the whole year is so overwhelming. Good job getting your miles in this week!

    1. Thanks! Everyone's so busy - focusing on a shorter list is definitely less intimidating.

    1. Thanks, it was fun! It's certainly a doable goal as long as I can find the time to ride.

  6. Wow. I'm so inspired by all your running and working out. I still have young children (youngest is 7) but I've always said I want to take the time to train for a full marathon when they're older. Maybe when they're in their teens and not reliant on Mom's Taxi Service. It really gives me something to look forward to when I feel sad about them growing up too quickly!

    1. Waiting is just what I did! It really does give you something fun to do when they need you less.

  7. Nice progress toward your goals!

I think your cycling is a good add to the mix and it's harder in the winter than spring, so good job getting those 15 miles done.

Of course I am particularly envious of the running right now, but I think I will get to try a run-walk next week. So, woohoo!

  9. I love your monthly goal and that you already accomplished it. I will be cycling more this year since I signed up for some triathlons. It will be hard to run a little less and add in the swimming and biking, but I know it'll be good for my body to not run as much.

  10. That's a lot of workin' out! My overall goal is to strengthen and avoid injuries.

    1. Avoiding injuries - always on my mind! My plan is to slowly increase the training either in miles or pace in order to do that. We have to be patient!

  11. Currently I am focusing on finishing New Orleans, but after that it is time to focus on getting healthy. I think setting yourself a new goal each month is a great way to be accountable.

  12. Congrats on meeting your monthly goal! I really should invest in a new bike...I would love to incorporate bike riding into my cross-training routine. My goal right now, though, is to start doing some weight training and incorporate that into my routine. I just started yesterday, and am already sore! Baby steps...

  13. Riding is so much fun. NO good for riding here right now so I'm focusing on my running. Also fun.

  14. Sounds like you are starting the year off right! I am confident you will achieve the challenge! I wish I enjoyed the bike a bit more, but unfortunately I associate it with injuries. I have always had to turn to the bike when I could not run....I need to break that association, but for now my training is taking a little too much out of me to try biking. Maybe when my mileage goes down a little :)

Keep up the good work :)
